Eaves Wood, Silverdale
In National Trust ownership, this beautiful woodland is on the edge of Silverdale. Numerous paths meander through the wood and at the top of the hill you will find the Victorian 'pepperpot'. Small NT car park plus some roadside parking.

Gait Barrows National Nature Reserve, Silverdale,
Lying at the heart of this Area of Oustanding Natural Beauty (AONB) is Gait Barrows National Nature Reserve, one of Britain's most important limestone landscapes.
Look out for butterflies such as the Duke of Burgundy and High Brown Fritillary and the many species of dragonfly and damselfly. Some 800 species of moth have also been recorded, including the rare Silky Wainscot. For birdwatchers, there are some real treats in store with Green Woodpeckers, Woodcock, Reed Warbler, Blackcap, Bittern and Marsh Harrier. Public footpaths and way-marked trails help to find your way around.

Created in the 1920s as a traditional urban park, today's family attractions cater for more modern tastes, whilst retaining the peace and tranquility of the original park. Included are splash and play parks, Adventure Pirate Golf and Happy Mount Railway.

Ulverston
Take the train from Silverdale to this pretty market town, with its labyrinth of winding streets and thriving independent shops. Choice of places to eat and drink - try the Farmers Arms for good food and relaxing atmosphere.
Stan Laurel was born in Ulverston. Look out for the statue of him and his partner Oliver Hardy and don't miss the Laurel and Hardy Museum.
Ulverston has the shortest, widest and deepest canal in the world, which allowed a thriving maritime community to develop exporting cotton, slate and linens around the world.
Cumbria Crystal and Heron Glass are located here and both welcome visitors to watch their processes.
